Do you really understand China? Many a time foreigners do not understand China because it is very different from the rest of the world as it has an unbroken civilisation for at least 4,000 years. So the current culture, political system etc. have been evolving over such a long history. Suffice to say, it has its own way of doing things since the past had served the country very well and so forcing the country to adapt to the western system (or any system) is like the scenario of placing a square peg in a round hole and will create upheavals.

The aim of this newsletter is to give you a comprehensive understanding of China by looking at Chinese history, economy, politics, culture etc. from a holistic approach so that you have a 360 degree understanding and thus your mind is open and not closed, just like what the great mind Victor Hugo said in the above.

There will be some posts on current happenings in China to keep you informed on China’s development since the foreign media do not report such stuff. Also, you will read some light-hearted articles to help you to learn about Chinese language, culture etc.

By the way, TianGong is the name of the Chinese space station currently being constructed. Its Chinese word is 天宫 (pinyin Tiāngōng) which literally means Heaven Palace. I hope to bring forth the message that understanding China for foreigners requires one to have an open mind, just like when one sees the galaxies from TianGong and realises that just like the galaxies, there is much to learn about China out there.
